It's a moot point I suppose, but lacking artisitic talent hasn't hindered the likes of Tracy Emmin and her ilk. I often think that art critics should be compelled to read The Emperor's New Clothes - daily. As for your artist's rendition (above), Piet Mondrian assured his place in the art encylopaedias by painting just that - rectangular and square blocks of colour in what I see is termed "Neo-Plasticism": http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Piet_Mondrian
